What exactly does the recipient get?
Twelve months of full Graphene+ — same tier as the regular $5/mo subscription. That means the back catalog stays open past every chapter's 7-day free window, a private RSS feed for podcast clients, ad-free playback, and a 10% bonus on Drift coin bundles. Their HiveJournal+ premium features (handwriting fonts, doubled monthly drops) are included too.
Does it auto-renew? Will I get charged again?
No. A gift is a one-time $60 charge — there's no recurring subscription created on either side. After 12 months the recipient's gift access ends naturally; we email them a heads-up at 30 / 7 / 1 day so they can decide whether to subscribe themselves. Your card is never touched again.
What if the recipient already has Graphene+?
Their existing subscription keeps running unchanged. The gift sits as a separate entitlement — a 12-month window starting the moment they redeem. If they cancel their subscription later, the gift takes over and they keep listening through the gift's end date.
What if they don't have a HiveJournal account yet?
They sign in (or sign up) at redemption time using whichever email they want connected to Graphene+. It doesn't have to be the email you sent the gift to — the redemption code is the source of truth, not the email address.
What if the email goes to spam?
Your /dashboard/my-gifts page lets you see whether they've redeemed yet, resend the email, or copy the redemption link directly so you can DM it to them. The gift stays redeemable until they claim it — it doesn't expire just because the email got lost.
Can I gift this anonymously?
Yes — you don't need a HiveJournal account to buy. Stripe collects your email for the receipt, and we use it on the gift email so the recipient knows who it's from (which most recipients want). If you genuinely need it sent without your name attached, contact us and we'll route it through a generic sender.
Why $60 and not 12 × $5 = $60?
It is $60 — the same total. We don't mark the gift up; the math is simple by design. The annual subscription is $48 (the discount price) but the gift is priced like 12 monthly payments because gifts feel different than committing to a recurring sub.
Refunds?
If something goes wrong, email support and we'll work it out. We refund unredeemed gifts within 30 days of purchase. After redemption, if the recipient hasn't actively used the access we'll usually still refund — we'd rather you be happy about it than fight us on $60.
